The Eastern European Section was established on 27 January 2014. In the early years of its existence, it carried out numerous projects supporting the development of democracy in Ukraine and Belarus. Its founding was a direct response to the dramatic events unfolding in Ukraine at that time — the Euromaidan protests and the brutal response of the authorities towards demonstrators demanding European integration. From the very beginning, the Eastern European Section undertook intensive relief activities, the cornerstone of which was the creation of a volunteer medical battalion.
Using collected funds, we purchased specialist medical equipment for services providing aid to wounded protesters on the Maidan. The equipment acquired included cardiac monitors, oxygen concentrators, resuscitation backpacks, and defibrillators.
In February 2014, representatives of the Eastern European Section travelled to Kyiv to deliver the equipment, show solidarity with the protesting Ukrainian citizens, and read out a statement from the Board of the entire Club regarding the events in Ukraine.
Following Russia's annexation of Crimea and the outbreak of armed conflict in the Donbas, the Eastern European Section expanded its activities, focusing on long-term assistance to victims of the war. Initiatives included youth exchanges, summer camps for children who had lost one or both parents in the war, and training programmes for young leaders. Today, the Eastern European Section focuses on providing cultural and material support to Polish diaspora communities living in our eastern neighbouring countries (such as Christmas parcels for residents of the Kresy region), organising historical and sightseeing trips in Poland and Europe, and supporting medical workers in Ukraine.
