For five years, every Thursday evening at Warsaw's Warszawa Zachodnia railway station has had a special character. That is when the volunteers of the Thursday Dinners meet with people experiencing homelessness.
Our gatherings are much more than just handing out a warm meal. They are a space for genuine, human connection — a place for conversations about both great matters and small everyday ones, and for jointly searching for solutions to the challenges faced by people in a homelessness crisis.
The Christmas season is a particularly difficult time for those affected by homelessness. While most of us gather with loved ones around a festive table, for many of our guests these days serve as a reminder above all of loneliness. Christmas is hard to go through alone — and that is why our presence and support take on a special meaning at that time of year. Every year we therefore organise a Christmas Eve Dinner, to which we invite our guests from Warszawa Zachodnia station. It is a moment to share the traditional Christmas wafer, sing carols, and enjoy longer conversations in a festive atmosphere.
